Days 76 and 77
We were
delighted to secure a night at Coral Bay - no easy feat given how busy
it was, with many places completely booked out.
We rolled in
around lunchtime, and it was just as wonderful as we remembered. Our first real
taste of Ningaloo Reef again. We settled in quickly and made the most of
it - swimming, snorkelling, soaking up that gorgeous turquoise water, and of
course another over‑water sunset. Picture perfect.
It was also
the first evening in ages that we were able to sit outside for dinner - no
wind, no flies, no mozzies - so we took full advantage.
The next
morning we squeezed in another swim, followed by coffee by the bay and looking
in amazement at the fish haul from the early morning fishing boats.
From Coral
Bay we continued to Exmouth - home of the big prawn (among other things).
The drive between the two was quite unique - running parallel to the red sand dunes, with the landscape leading up to them surprisingly green after recent rain and dotted everywhere with huge termite mounds.
In Exmouth we
shifted into practical mode - lunch at Froth Brewery, followed by a big grocery
shop to see us through our upcoming nine‑day off‑grid stay in Cape Range
National Park. This included buying some fresh fish, squid and prawns from the
local fish shack - hard to resist.
Our evening
was spent at Yardie Homestead, where we were able to catch up on washing, fill
the water tanks and reset a little. It’s also conveniently close to the park
entrance, which made for an easy start the next morning.

Loved that part of the coast. Evan though the coral is so bleached, the water was beautiful. We stayed at coral bay then south lefroy. The coast track from there to Yardie creek was probably the worst road we drove on. Took us a couple of hours but at least the creek crossing was dry.
